USA 200 Series Installation Instructions

The P1 engine heater is designed to create cooling system temperature prior to starting the engine. It is not designed to heat the engine to normal operating temperature.

Installation Instructions for 200 Series Engine Heater “IN CAR”

  • Heater is to be installed on RH side panel behind front axle.
  • Using the template supplied, drill 5 holes;

4 x 7/16” diameter holes for dzus fasteners (not supplied)

1 x 2-5/8” diameter hole for electrical plug

  1. Ensure that the cooling system fill point is the highest part of the cooling system. If it isn’t this may cause air pockets and the heater will not function efficiently.
  2. Plumb the -8 heater outlet (marked with arrow) to the furthest and lowest point on the engine block.
  3. Now plumb the -8 heater return, closest to the heater and the lowest point on the engine block.
  4. Fill the cooling system, ensuring that the fill point is the highest part of the system. If it isn’t you may have to jack the front of the car up to create a bleed point for the air trapped within the cooling system.
  5. Loosen the radiator return lines on the inlet manifold to ensure that there is no air in the system.
  6. Leave the radiator cap off.
  7. Connect the heater to a stable power supply to start circulating the coolant.
  8. The radiator return lines may need to be loosened again to ensure ALL the air has been bleed from the system.
  9. Watch the fill point to ensure that there are no air bubbles appearing. This could take between 2 – 5 minutes.
  10. Reinstall the radiator cap to build temperature.
  11. The -8 outlet hose should be slightly warmer than the return hose. If the outlet is extremely hot turn the heater off and bleed the system again. Damage can occur to the heater if left running.

Weekly Maintenance

  1. When washing the car ensure that the heater is “bagged” (like you would a magneto) to ensure that no water enters the electrics of the heater.
  2. When checking the coolant level briefly turn the heater on to ensure correct operation. Remember that under racing conditions water can be pushed out of the cooling system causing air pockets.
